Bear killed red deer
For the first time in the course of this project we found a red deer carcass killed by a bear. We found the female deer dead on a scree-slope from where the bear had pulled it down into a beech thicket. After a short meal the bear left the prey completely covered with soil, leaves, and rocks and did not come back for the following five days. Further examination of the carcass revealed that the bear had killed it by breaking its neck.
