New Lynx collared!
Last night we caught an adult lynx female at a roe-deer kill site in Valea Glajerie underneath Bucegi Mountains! Marius Scurtu, our wolf trapper, had found the fresh kill in the morning and alarmed us. Until the evening, we had set 5 foot-snares around the kill, each of them equipped with a trap alarm transmitter. By the time we were done, we already heard the mating calls of the lynx coming back. Yet, the cat was suspicious and it took until 1:30 a.m., before we heard the signals of the trap alarm from the receiver in our car some 500 m away. Within minutes we were back at the kill, tranquillised the lynx and put a radio-collar on her. We estimated her to be at least three years old.
