The Carpathian Large Carnivore Project focuses on the three large carnivore species - the Brown bear, Wolf and Eurasian lynx. Conserving and managing these top predators throughout the Romanian Carpathians poses an important conservation challenge for the 21st Century. Large carnivores require large areas of suitable habitat with plentiful prey species and therefore serve as useful barometers of the health of their natural environment. Their presence in viable numbers is a measure of regional biodiversity and of Romania's contribution to the conservation of global biodiversity.
